Jupiter Group has evolved over five decades by building specialised businesses around international relationships, market knowledge, trading experience and manufacturing capability.
Mr. Dudley Thambinayagam founded the Jupiter Group in 1975, beginning his career at 21 by assisting his father, Mr. A.J. Thambinayagam, in the family business, A.J. Thambinayagam & Co.
Jupiter Group’s roots reach back to A.J. Thambinayagam & Co., which participated in National Paper Corporation tenders and represented international suppliers in Sri Lanka during the 1960s and early 1970s.
Dudley Thambinayagam joined his father’s business before founding Jupiter Trading in 1975. Paper mill representation and international trade became an important foundation of the Group, but Jupiter’s development did not stop there.
Over time, the Group created and developed separate businesses for different commercial functions. Jupiter Paper was established to purchase selected paper products for trading and distribution within Sri Lanka. Jupiter Packaging added manufacturing capability by converting LDPE, HDPE and related materials into printed and unprinted poly bags. Jupiter Agencies developed the Group’s premium stationery brand distribution business through Waterman Pens. Jupiter Plantations added another dimension to the Group through the ownership and management of coconut estates, supplying harvested coconuts to industry wholesalers.
The Group also expanded its international paper activities through Ducell International in India and Jupiter Agencies LLC in the United States, both of which support paper mill representation, international trading and market development.
Today, Jupiter Group is best understood not as one trading company, but as a group of specialised businesses connected by common ownership, industry experience and multi-generational relationships.

Time Line
Belonging to the Counts Avanzo of Cordenons from 1630, it became property of the Galvani family, well known local entrepreneurs, in 1730. The citations by the Senate of Doges about the importance of the “Cartera de Cordenon”, the Venetian Republic official paper supplier, date back to that period.
Since 1984 the paper factory, completely renovated in its structures, is under the direction of the Gilberti family, continuing its orientation towards the production of high quality special paper.
AJ Thambinayagam & Co. was founded. They were a regular participant in National Paper Corporation tenders and sole representatives of Morjon Canned Mackerel products.
Dudley Thambinayagam joined his father’s business, AJ Thambinayagam & Co.
The Government’s new liberalized policy allowed Jupiter Trading to start importing and trading Paper products in Sri Lanka.
Partnered with T.H Brunius & Co selling Mondi Paper and Board.
Partnered with Central National Gottesman, USA.
Partnered with Asia Pulp & Paper Indonesia, the largest paper mill in the world.
Jupiter Agencies was founded.
Partnered with JK Papers, India.
Partnered with Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers, Chennai.
Opened an office in Chennai, India.
Started waste paper sales in south India.
Partnered with BILT, India.
Jupiter Plantations was founded.
Acquired a Polythene bag-converting factory.
Started trading fine papers, through Jupiter Paper.
Partnered with Waterman Pens, France.
Partnered with NR Agarwal, India.
Partnered with Sona Papers, UAE.
Opened Jupiter Agencies LLC in New Jersey.
Started sales into Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Opened Hello Print for Digital Printing and Premium Stationery.
